First Holy Communion 2015

Well done to our Primary 4 class that received their First Holy Communion on Saturday. A wonderful ceremony during which the children carried out their duties excellently! A big thank you to Ms Carragher for preparing the children and organising the ceremony, ably assisted by Mrs McNally and P4 Classroom Assistant Catherine O'Hare. A big thank you also to our Parents Association for providing refreshments back at the Rural Community Hall and for making up goody bags for our fantastic School Choir.

Success at St Michael's!!

Success at St Michael’s

It has been a busy month at St Michael’s PS  Newtownhamilton, as pupils continue to achieve success on all fronts.

Tara and Urte won two Kindle Fire tablets for their school when their story writing skills earned them first place in a creative writing competition which had a distinctive international dimension.

They were among over 120 pupils from eight primary schools across Northern Ireland who recently took part in the unique programme ‘Around The World In Story Tales’ at W5 in the Odyssey Belfast to promote International Education Week.

With support from the Department Of Education NI and The British Council, the programme facilitated teachers and their schools to form sustainable relationships with international partners.  St. Michael’s hosted visits from a Chilean language assistant and honed their ICT skills with animation workshops.

W5 Educator Elaine Steele explained; “Around the World in Story Tales incorporates a unique series of events which will use literacy and drama as a tool to promote better understanding of other cultures amongst young people.”

The school football team were also very successful this month. They won the shield at the recent Belleeks Tournament, playing some excellent football and showing off their great GAA skills.

We had a visit from some special guests this month. Key Stage 1 teacher Miss Carragher took some newly born lambs into the school for the children to meet. A great experience for the children who had the opportunity to hold, feed and play with them.

Sr Tarsisius made her last visit to the school in an official capacity. She was very impressed by the singing, dancing and confidence of the children as she visited each classroom. The Primary 2 class presented her with a special portrait so that she would remember the children of St Michael’s. We look forward to welcoming her back to their school next year to view our new foyer office.

Finally, new Principal Mr Mone received a very warm welcome from all children, parents and staff on beginning his new post at the beginning of the month.

Happy Easter!!

I would like to wish the whole school community a very safe and happy Easter on behalf of the staff and children at St Michael's. I look forward to getting to know everyone and working to ensure that St Michael's continues to be a leading light in our community.

Mr S Mone
At St. Michael's Primary School We aim to create a calm and caring environment where teachers and children learn and work together. Each Child will be encouraged to fulfil their potential and central to this is the ethos of respect for self and others. We aim to establish a community that pupils, parents, teachers and support staff enjoy a sense of belonging to and have an important part to play.

On this blog we will keep parents/guardians informed of past and upcoming events. There will be pictures, surveys and even games for your children to play, so make sure you are a regular visitor.
